New £10 note


The Bank of England (and probably with reference to the Tourist Board) have announced that from 2017 Jane Austen will replace Charles Darwin on their £10 note.

Austen is only the third female historical figure to win a place on a banknote since the policy was introduced in 1970. Nursing pioneer Florence Nightingale was the face of the £10 note between 1975 and 1994 and social reformer Elizabeth Fry was on the £5 note (to be replaced in 2016 by Winton Churchill).
